Dylan McDermott Actor Bio
Name: Dylan McDermott
Date/Place of Birth: October 26th, 1961; Waterbury, Connecticut, USA.
Brief Bio: Dylan McDermott was born Mark Anthony McDermott to fifteen year old Diane Marino and seventeen year old Richard McDermott. His parents separated during his earlier years, and in 1967, when Dylan was five, his mother was killed by her live-in boyfriend. The murder was ruled an accidental homicide until 2012, when evidence surfaced proving that her death could not have been accidental. Dylan and his six month old sister Robin then moved in with their grandmother, Alvis Rogers Marino.
At 15, Dylan’s father married the playwright and women’s activist Eve Ensler, who adopted Dylan and encouraged him to attend acting school and Fordham University in New York City. He also studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse at New York City, under the esteemed Sanford Meisner. Dylan shared a truly passionate bond with his ex-stepmother, saying that “She was that one person who changes your life. I didn’t even know who I was, but she got me, and we got each other. I’m totally grateful to her, because I feel like I’m her Frankenstein.” He changed his name from Mark Anthony to Dylan as tribute to her because she miscarried a child that would have received the same name.
He met his wife, Shiva Rose, on the same day he got his big break by being cast in the 1993 film In the Line of Fire alongside Clint Eastwood. “I can’t really say that I ever believed in any of that business about fate and soul mates and the one really perfect person until I met my wife… As corny as it seems, it was really love at first sight. It was like, ‘Boom!’ There it is, you know it, and everything else fades away.” Dylan has had two daughters with Shiva: Colette Rose McDermott in 1996, and Charlotte Rose McDermott in 2005.
While attending a dinner honoring Clint Eastwood, Dylan ran across Jeffrey Kramer, who was president of David E. Kelley productions at the time. Because of that, he secured a role in the 1997 series The Practice, and consequently earned a Golden Globe in 1999 and nominations in 2000 and 2001.
